via Japanese Yatai food stalls, travel tip
Food Stalls, Nakasu Island, Fukuoka
One of the best things about visiting Japan is the food! Simply put, you can eat great food anywhere you go. Of course, especially in the tourist areas, you will be tempted by many fancy restaurants, but… it would be a pity to visit Japan and to limit your eating experience to expensive establishments.
If you want to experience the real life of the Japanese people, I strongly recommend you to try eating at an open air food stall (yatai in Japanese), like the ones photographed here in Fukuoka, in the Tenjin area, on the Nakasu Island. These food stalls are actually so famous that they are one of the city’s symbols: they are opened all the year around, usually in the evening, during winter being heated with electric radiators and protected with a plastic curtain. The delicious smell is irresistible, tempting you to try the local ramen, or yakitori , or oden… yummy!
